From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In Norwegian knitting, a selburose is a knitted rose pattern in the shape of a regular octagram. It is traditionally used for winter clothing such as the Selbu mitten (selbuvott) and sweaters (lusekofte, lopapeysa and mariusgenser). Of ancient origin, the pattern is associated with the town of Selbu in Norway, and has become an international symbol of Norway Christmas and winter.
The Norwegian is one of the oldest sheep breeds in the world. It is estimated that the first sheep came to Norway more than 6,000 years ago. Norway is a land with large grass resources and than 14,000 farms hold sheep many with fewer than 100 adult sheep.
What can I use it for?
Perfect for hand spinning, hand felting and many other craft uses. Suitable for combing, felting, hand knitting yarns and woven garments, where good resilience is required.
How much fibre will I need?
This will depend on how finely you spin plus the size and tension of the final knitted garment. The weights below are a helpful guide but cannot be guaranteed. If you are unsure buy a little extra so that you can finish your project from the same batch.
Natural & biodegradable
Wool is 100% natural. Every year sheep produce a new fleece making it a renewable fibre source. At the end of its useful life it can be returned to the soil where it will decompose.
