Sage dyed Merino
Commercially dyed colours that you can re-order time and time again!
Origin: South Africa and South America
Thickness: Each fibre is approx 23 microns thick
Staple length: Each fibre is approx 90mm long
Characteristics: Very soft and finely crimped
Content: 100% natural wool
Uses: Merino is regarded as having some of the finest and softest wool of any sheep. It is probably the number one choice for spinning, needle felting, wet felting, dyeing with acid milling dyes and many other craft uses! These are already dyed but you could still over dye many of the lighter colours if you wanted to. There are limitless possibilities for blending Merino with other wools, fibres, silks, flax, bamboo etc.
Did you know? Merino wool is so soft against the skin that some people with sensitive skin may feel less or no irritation when wearing a merino wool item of clothing.
How much fibre will I need?
This will depend on not only how finely you spin, but also the size and tension of the final knitted garment. 100g of fibre will make 100g of yarn the length of which will depend on how chunky you spin the yarn. The weights below are a helpful guide but cannot be guaranteed. If you are unsure, buy a little bit more than you think you need (that's what stashes are for!)
Natural, renewable & biodegradable
Wool is 100% natural. Every year sheep produce a new fleece making wool a renewable fibre source. At the end of its useful life wool can be returned to the soil where it will quickly decompose. For more information visit the Campaign for Wool.
