You'll get 100% of my attention!

Class times are Monday to Friday 10am to 6pm by arrangement.

This is private tuition so it will be just me and you. You'll find my classes are friendly and packed with information and tips. One session is usually enough to send you home with the confidence to carry on practising and learning by yourself.

I recommend a 2 hour class but you can book from 1½ to 3 hours. I will tailor the content to your individual requirements and experience, and we'll cover as much as we can in the allotted time.

I can supply all of the equipment & materials or you can bring your own spinning wheel or weaving loom and learn on that if you like.

Examples...

Below indicates some of the topics we may cover depending on your experience level and the allotted time.

Spinning on a drop spindle

This is the ideal way for a beginner to learn hand spinning. We'll be using a top whorl drop spindle to produce a single ply yarn which you can take home with you.

Beginner (2 hours) or experienced (1½ to 3 hours)

Spinning on a wheel

From the total beginner (book 3 hours) to refining and improving techniques including drafting techniques, plying etc. Wheel supplied or bring your own.

Beginner (3 hours) or experienced (1½ to 3 hours)

Worsted to woolen spinning - the next steps

Different methods of drafting and spinning styles that influence the yarn produced. I'll take you from short forward to long draw in a few easy steps. Discover tips on how to spin consistent yarn plus lots more. Bring your own wheel if you like.

Experienced (3 hours) or experienced (1½ to 3 hours)

Weaving on a rigid heddle loom

From the total beginner to more advanced such as warping up, tension, using pick up sticks etc

Beginner (2 hours) or experienced (1½ to 3 hours)

Moving on from rigid heddle to a multi shaft loom

If you are considering a multi shaft loom this class will help you weigh up the pros & cons before you take the plunge! I'll explain the learning curve involved in moving from a RHL to Multi shaft and the possibilities that it opens up. Learn how to read a weaving draft and where to find the best resources to take your journey even further.
