The Norwegian is one of the oldest sheep breeds in the world. The wool fibres are approx. 33 to 36 microns thick and 80 to 120mm long. It is estimated that the first sheep came to Norway more than 6,000 years ago. Norway is a land with large grass resources and than 14,000 farms hold sheep many with fewer than 100 adult sheep.
What can I use it for?
Spin your own yarn for Norwegian style sweaters, hats, mittens etc. Use with our hand dyed Norwegian colours and create your own lovely fairisle knitwear.

How much fibre will I need?
This will depend on how finely you spin plus the size and tension of the final knitted garment. The weights below are a helpful guide but cannot be guaranteed. If you are unsure buy a little extra so that you can finish your project from the same batch.
Natural & biodegradable
Wool is 100% natural. Every year sheep produce a new fleece making it a renewable fibre source. At the end of its useful life it can be returned to the soil where it will decompose.
